mo2
If you use IEW for writing, what grammar program are you using? I see that they recommend AAS for spelling, which we are using, but I don't see a recommendation from them as to a grammar program.
Pen
I think the idea is that grammar is learned in IEW by writing. Instead of diagramming a type of clause, the children learn to write and use it effectively, which is more important. (That was an example of using clauses as it might be done in an early level of IEW.) When the parent sees something done wrong, it is mentally noted for work later on--possibly with imitations written by the parent for the child to correct--and this seems to be very effective and far more fun for the child than seeing their own work red pencilled. That said, we are using Zaner-Bloser G.U.M. (grammar, usage, mechanics), along with IEW for extra grammar practice--and also for variety. mo2
Thank you! I'm just not comfortable teaching grammar without a formal program. I may go the FLL/Hake route.
scrapbabe
IEW sells Fix it grammar. We're going to use that and MCT. We also bought the Blue Book Of Grammar to answer any questions we might stumble across.
BethG
I've heard many use Shurley English with IEW. This is what Veritas Press recommends also. www.veritaspress.com. Perhaps that's why I see this combo together so often -- because many people follow veritas so closely (with great results I might add).
