Violet Crown
Great Girl has molars coming in. The dentist advised ibuprofen if it hurts. Well it hurts so much she can't sleep. Orajel only helps a little; she says the pain is too deep for the surface analgesic. Any advice?
gardenmom5
ibruprophen is an anti-inflamitory, so it should help. that's why the gums hurt - as the teeth push on them, it inflames the tissue making them tender. one dose isn't going to reduce inflamation very much, be sure and do regular dosing over at least a 24 hr period before deciding it's not helping. ask your dentist for what doseage she should be taking for her weight for the pain in the gums. she can also try popsicles. PrincessMommy
It could be the molars and the wisdom teeth together are giving her trouble. Has she had a recent x-ray to see what is happening to her wisdom teeth?
Nakia
Agreeing with Kristen. Do the Ibuprofen around the clock, and you can do Tylenol between the Ibuprofen doses. Have you tried icing her jaw? :grouphug:
Violet Crown
Okay, going to scheduled doses. Unfortunately I can't reach her dentist until Monday, and naturally the pain really geared up Friday evening. She had x-rays last week, which is when I found out she had molars (no wisdom teeth) coming in; she hadn't told me her gums had been aching. I'm freezing a homemade teether in a ziploc bag right now so she can get something icy back there.
frugalmama
If you can find it, Orajel Tooth Desensitizer works wonders for this type of pain. It's kinda hard to find though - I've seen it online mostly as of late.
Lily_Grace
Can you find her an amber necklace? They're used for babies who have teething pain. The oil in the amber is absorbed through the skin and serves as a constant pain reliever.
Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
:grouphug: for your dd. My Wisdom teeth started to poke through when I was 22 and I thought my jaw was breaking. The pain was very bad. Ibuprofen helped some. Sounds silly but I would put cotton balls in salt water and chill in freezer and then put the cotton balls on my gum...it helped me. Maybe try something like this.
