Ibbygirl
I've never lived in an area where baggers take the stuff to your car, *except* for on-line shopping with parking lot pick up, which carries a $10 fee, and I never tipped on top of that. Wow! And I've never even heard of that one where you buy online and pick it up in the parking lot. where I live you go into the store's customer service area to pick things up that were purchased online. Funny the differences depending on the region you live.

Funny the differences depending on the region you live. This is fairly new around here too. As far as I know, only one chain does it, and only a few of the stores (in the more upscale areas) provide that service. I would love it if there was one close to me! Although, I'm probably too cheap to pay the fee, actually

Hannah C.
In high school (not that long ago), I worked as a bagger at Tom Thumb (Safeway under another name). I started at $6/hr when minimum wage was $5.25. We were not supposed to accept tips. I refused tips when they were offered for a while. More often than not, people would get offended and insist I take the tip! After a while, I just took the tips and said thank you - it was easier. We didn't have a place we were expected to put the tips, so I kept them. Not many people tipped, which is good. Those who did were usually older women. Around here, all the major grocery stores offer carryout. At Tom Thumb, it was required - if a secret shopper caught us not asking, we got the store in trouble. KatieJ
We shop almost exclusively at Costco and DH usually goes along, therefore he is my "bagger" and takes my groceries out to the car. I figure I have given him lots of tips over the years, so he doesn't get any extra to do the groceries. :biggrinjester:

Myeightkiddies
I usually tip a dollar. However, I usually have a bigger son with me when I go, unless I'm going for just a couple of things. Normally I don't need a person to help and don't like being forced to use one.
