Does anyone know how to permenantly delete personal info. from people search sites?

Recommended Posts

Several months ago I googled my name for fun, and found myself on several people search sites. I contacted them and was assured my info. would be permenantly deleted. I checked now and then, and my name had been removed. Well, today I type my name into google, and it was listed on several sites again. Is there some secret to getting this info. deleted for good. My name is not that common, so it comes right up. We are unlisted, and one site even has my full address visible even before I click on the link. :glare:

Your name probably reappeared because people search site updated its database. These people search sites often subscribe to public records services, which are periodically updated. Here is an article that give tips for erasing yourself from web.

Maybe this will help some. Someone posted it on another forum long ago:

For Google:

"You'll need to fill out a form at http://www.google.com/help/pbremoval.html. The form asks for your name, city and state, phone number, email address, and reason for removal, a multiple choice: incorrect number, privacy issue, or "other.""

http://www.whitepages.com

"How do I add, edit or remove a listing?"

"Residential listing information originates from publicly available local telephone records. To add or edit a residential listing, please contact your local telephone provider. The corrected information will appear on our website at the time of our next scheduled update, which occurs quarterly. To remove a residential listing, please fill out our online removal form."

Yahoo

http://people.yahoo.com/ and there is a link at the top to remove your listing.

I cannot answer this for every website, but you can explore all the ones that give directory listings or the capability of searching, etc. Most will have the ability to remove your listing, but some may not. I don't know that they have to remove it by law because most of the time it is through public record.
