Help! Wicked Ear Problems-chiro? regular doc? self-remedy?

Recommended Posts

i have been dealing with this problem off/on for several months. i had a fluid-filled cyst on my ear drum the size of a quarter. after self remedies, it supposedly went away-according to my regular doc-but the off/on pain was still there.

-pulsating sensation in my right ear

-both ears pop when i swallow

-right ear(the one with the cyst) will crack when i'm chewing at times

-things got better for a few months

woke up with head cold last week and ear problems are present again.

i've been fighting unusual head aches(that persist) over the last several days.

this AM i woke up to severe throat, right ear pain and inability to turn my head w/o pain on the right side of my neck. i also have all of the above

swallowing is miserable. talking is miserable. sounds are miserable. chewing is miserable.

i have been sleeping for the last few hours on my heating pad. that brings me very slight relief.

i can't function!!

our medical insurance sucks. the copay is $50, a specialist is $75. then, the insurance company will only pay pennies on visits. they do NOT cover Chiropractic visits and i do see a chiro from time to time.

someone tell me what to do! see my chiro? get to a doc(i am VERY anti anti-biotics)? try one of my weird home remedies??

thanks for any help.

cass

I could see where a chiro could help with the headaches, but a cyst? All I can see (from my limited experience) is that being anti-antibx for ear problems that clearly need them - will end you up at the hearing aid place with me. Don't mess around with your hearing. Seriously.

Whatever avenue you pursue, I hope you heal quickly!

I would definitely go to an ENT. I think you need to see a specialist. :grouphug:

what can an ENT do for me? i thought they were for doing surgeries.

thx

They are specialists who handle all ear, nose or throat issues. They may also be able to drain the cyst manually, or do ear drum repair if needed.

I would absolutely go to an ENT. You could end up with scarring that can create permanent hearing loss.

There are topical antibiotics that may (or may not--depends on the condition) help if you would consider that as opposed to an oral one.

bumping this....unsure i can get into an ENT anytime soon.

if i went to a chiro,is there something specific they can do other than a regular adjustment?

thx

When I called the ENT to report my ear pain issues, they got me in the very same day. I think they leave schedule openings for emergencies.

:iagree: Dh had something like this several years ago; the doctor described it as a "blister" or cyst on his eardrum. He was referred to an ENT and had a minor in-office surgical procedure. I was invited to observe; the doctor used a tiny camera that projected a real-time image on a television screen. He used a tiny suction instrument to open the cyst and remove the fluid inside it. Dh said it wasn't painful at all, except that the instrument was LOUD.
