TXBeth
I am looking for a Bible to give to my nephew for Christmas. He just turned 9 and reads on a 3-4 grade level. The NIrV would be too babyish, KJV is too difficult, and his parents (and I) don't really approve of NIV. I would really, really like to get him an NLT Bible that is marketed specifically for boys (not just "children"). I really love this, but unfortunately it is out of print. Can anyone find a boy's NLT study Bible? I really can't afford more than $30 at the most. There is a God's Word for Boys on Amazon, and I am waiting to hear back from my brother whether the reading level on that one would work. Thanks for any help! ~Tara~
I was going to suggest the Children's ESV, http://www.amazon.com/Childrens-Bible-Religion-Crossway-Bibles/dp/1581348924/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1324054787&sr=8-2 but you specified "boy". I'll have to look into that one. hmm Adventure Bible is the next thing that comes to mind: http://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Bible-NIV-Larry-Richards/dp/0310715431/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324054818&sr=1-6 (a couple of my boys used this at that age) A friend brought this to my attention recently: http://www.amazon.com/Action-Bible-Doug-Mauss/dp/0781444993/ref=sr_1_15?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324054876&sr=1-15 Not my thing, but thought I'd throw that out there anyway. This? http://www.amazon.com/GODS-WORD-Boys-Blue-Hardcover/dp/0801013259/ref=sr_1_24?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324054942&sr=1-
Mrs Mungo
My son has the Adventure Bible, but it is NIV.
TXBeth
I really, really like the 2:52 Boys Bible, but it is only in NIV. I just wrote my SIL to see if they think maybe the NIV would be okay for this age. Then by the time he is old enough to dig deeper into word studies and exegesis, he will need a new Bible anyway and can get a more accurate version. I've been buying NLT for my sons, but haven't really seen study Bibles in that translation. (I mean real study versions, not just Bibles with inserted inspirational essays.) lcelmer
For what it's worth, you might not want to automatically rule out the kjv. My bookish, but reading at 3rd grade level 8 year old is LOVING her kjv... we just talk about any words she doesn't understand. My other child though, needs major teeth pulling to read at all, so we went for the New King James with that one. So I would try the version out with the kiddo prior to buying, or buy them what you want them to be able to read, and teach it slowly. For print size, the largest you can find is so worth it! :-) Here are a few links for a regular NLT study bible.. http://www.christianbook.com/nlt-study-bible-hardcover/9780842355704/pd/355704 http://www.christianbook.com/nlt-first-holy-bible-boys-edition/9781414306377/pd/306377 Maybe the best bet with your budget is to buy a used copy, I would check the isbn at addall.com
