justamouse
My dad is going to be inactive (or not as active as he likes to be) for a while (he crushed a vertebrae) and he *loves* leafing through weird catalogs as a pastime. stuff he likes - making things yourself farming log cabins beermaking I'm thinking of signing him up for about a dozen catalogs, and I'm going to register him with funny names. Anyone know of great, strange, manly type catalogs?
thescrappyhomeschooler
Well, dh gets the Cabela's catalog, and although in and of itself, it's not that weird, the few times I've looked through it, there is some pretty weird stuff in there, like toilet seats with shell casings embedded in them. I think that's where Mom draws the line though, as much as he wishes...

NicAnn
DH gets Cheaper Than Dirt, but be aware that they seem to send catalogues every.single.day. :iagree: Does Think Geek have a catalog? Or what about some from Canada or another country?
charlotteb
We enjoyed looking through the Think Geek catalog recently. www.thinkgeek.com I'm not sure who sent it to my house, but it was definately entertaining. :smilielol5:

Hmm-other countries-they go to Canada every year for a long vacation of camping and fishing.
KarenNC
I really enjoy catalog "window shopping" as well :). What on Earth catalog http://www.whatonearthcatalog.com/ Carol Wright Gifts usually has some oddities, though the overall tone may not be "manly" enough ;)--it's been a while since I got one http://www.carolwrightgifts.com/ Miles Kimball http://www.mileskimball.com/MilesKimball/ Maybe Plow and Hearth http://www.plowhearth.com? These cater more to groups like the Amish/homesteading folks, so will have some unusual items Lehmans http://www.lehmans.com/ Cumberland General Store http://www.cumberlandgeneral.com/ (costs $6) Maybe a magazine like Mother Earth News? http://www.motherearthnews.com/ You could google "catalog" plus his interest (say "beermaking catalog") and get a number of ideas. msk
Not a weird catalog per se, but Forestry Suppliers has some odd outdoorsy items, including a dazzling array of waders, a zillion colors of flagging tape, and belt holsters for things I never imagined holstering before. http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/ ThinkGeek and Archie McPhee are always good for weird stuff, if he leans towards the geek side of "manly." There are catalogs devoted to refurbishing old tractors (Steiner Tractor Parts is one). There's also an emerging industry of making small houses out of old shipping containers which a web search may bring up catalogs for. A friend of mine managed to get on the mailing list for a personal jet catalog by telling them his budget was "less than 8 million." I'm not sure what the name of it was, though.
