All I know is that it uses the same ideas from Spell to Read & Write, which uses ideas from Romalda Spaulding's Writing Road to Reading. Anyone?? I've responded to a lot of them because I really love it! It is so simple to use. I put off doing spelling because all the other programs out there were not what I was looking for. I wanted a phonics based program not just a spelling list type thing. AAS teaches to spell via the spelling rules. That way children will be able to spell other words that follow the same rules. It made so much sense to me and my kids are learning how to spell. I especially love how AAS is multi-sensory- visual, auditory, and hands-on. I think you'll find a lot of details by doing a search, but if you had a specific question I'm sure we can help you. I like that it teaches spelling rules - my analytical Becca will want to know the whys. As a natural speller, I don't always know the whys, I just spell the words! My oldest (dd age 7) has struggled with spelling, so I needed a rules based program to teach her HOW to spell. Our previous program had lists and Friday tests. We're really enjoying it. It's great learning the rules of spelling (many of which I don't know!). My dd loves using the tiles. I love the phrase and sentence dictation at the end of the 'chapters' (actually called 'steps') instead of a test of a set of words. They use words that follow rules used up to that point, so it's great review. And they often use words that aren't part of the focus list because they should be able to spell any word that follows the rules they've learned. The built in review with the dictation and the daily review of the note cards will definitely help us! I've also started my 2nd dd with the program. This program sounds like a common sense approach. I'm off to do my search of the forums to find the posts on AAS. Thanks for your response. Pata Posted June 7, 2008 Share Posted June 7, 2008 I chose AAS because I need to know the whys so I can teach spelling! Also we finished phonics earlier than I thought we would, so I wanted a phonics based spelling program so that we could reinforce what she has already learned.
