Kathryn
I've read the second and the third editions, but don't own WTM and I'd like to. There's a big difference in price obviously. I don't recall them being all that different, but my readings have mostly focused on the grammar stage. Would I just be missing updated resources by getting the 2nd edition, or something more significant?
HeidiKC
Get the third edition. I have the second but have borrowed the 3rd edition from the library to read. It gives much better examples for outlining, the recomendations for logic stage English are different (she recommends Rod & Staff in the third instead of A Beka, for instance), and I think the science for logic stage is very different. It isn't just slight updates, but different recommendations and I sure wish I had the third and might end up buying it. P.S. I've read the entire second edition, but mainly focused on the logic stage when reading the third edition. It seems like there were a lot of new recommendations - I just can't remember all of them. serendipitous journey
All I can say is that I read the second, own the third, and have never felt a reason to go hunt in the 2nd ed. for anything; but we've only just started grammar level so I don't know how valuable that is ...:)
MeganW
I really like the schedules that are in the FIRST edition, even though SWB didn't want to put them in! The black & white nitty gritty details helped me to "get it" - it gave me a framework to set up my daily schedule. I'm not sure I could have really wrapped my head around the whole homeschooling thing without that. The THIRD edition has the most recent curricula recommendations, and more details about writing. ~Victoria~
I am raising this from the dead, but the primary difference between the first and third is more detail for writing and updated curriculum recs? If I own WWE would I miss out by buying the first edition?
kiwik
The first was written before peace hill press and is more detailed in outrun together stuff yourself. I like the first but I own the third and it does have more up to date recommendations. The home school curricula market has exploded since the first edition but then it has also changed a lot since the third edition.
