Mom28kds
I'm looking for books for my beginner readers to go along with a phonics program. I'm doing ABEKA phonics and it's going great but want some books to go with it. Ones that have CVC words etc. Not hard words they'd have to guess at. What do you like? Abekah - first readers Bob books I see sam? Any others that I don't know about. Opinions please :001_smile:
dbaeimers
We are doing A Beka as well. With my daughter we used BOB BOOKS to go with it and it worked perfectly.
bbkaren
I'm not sure if it's a popular choice here, but my son (6) enjoyed reading some of the simpler Dr. Seuss (Hop on Pop, One Fish/Two Fish) and PD Eastman (Go, Dog, Go) books. He was both entertained and encouraged by reading them on his own with confidence.
Mimmy
There is a 12 book set called Usborne Phonics Readers that is nice. Amazon carries it, my library has it as well.
Mama2two
the Treadwell primer and then the rest of the series as they advance.

I think this is the one at my library too. Does the parent read one side and the child reads the other? It's nice to read a story that isn't just cats on mats. momofabcd
Christian Liberty Press has a set of 4 phonics readers. Here's a link http://www.christianbook.com/phonics-readers-grade-k-florence-lindstrom/9781930092303/pd/50451?item_code=WW&netp_id=161777&event=ESRCG&view=details
masaki
BOB books were a big hit at our house. We also liked the MCP (Modern Curriculum Press) phonics readers and had good luck finding most of these at our local library. You might enjoy playing Boggle Jr together, too. houseofkids&pets
My ds likes the simple Dr. Seuss books. We also just discovered some early phonics books at our library. They are from the "Sounds Like Reading Series" by Brian Cleary (he also does silly books about the parts of speech). Another option is progressivephonics.com. You can set up a free account and read the books on-line or print them out. Starfall.com also has phonics books you can read on the computer. Some day I will learn how to attach direct links:glare:!! Tigger
Usbourne readers, Nora Gaydos series of readers, Starfall readers, and simple picture books (like easy Dr. Seuss books, aka Hop on Pop) are all enjoyable for new readers! Mrs. Lilac
If you go to Amazon.com and type in "Now I'm Reading" a whole series of early readers will pop up. My kids LOVED these....so much more than Bob books. They read them until the covers fell off.
Willow Creek Academy
BOB Books have been amazing with my littlers!
houseofkids&pets
To Mrs. Lilac - I checked out the "Now I'm Reading" series by Nora Gaydos and really liked what I saw. I found a website call innovativekids.com that also had games and flashcards from this author that can be used with this series. Have you ever tried any of these? I did see that her phonics readers have really great reviews on Amazon. Thanks for the info!
Heidi @ Mt Hope
I'll chime in with praises for the reader sets by Nora Gaydos. Two of my boys learned to read almost exclusively with them. Love, love, love, love them. :) (My boys didn't really care for the Bob Books, but they loved the Nora Gaydos ones.)
