Ottakee
I was thinking of sending a book or 2 to a couple that has been married a year. No issues in the marriage that I know of, I just know that for dh and I, the first year was great, the 2nd year, not so great at all and that was a big struggle for us. I personally liked For Women Only and For Men Only but I know a lot of people here don't like these books. Would you send these books to them? Something else? I am looking for more of a "understanding your mate" type book vs. one that says you should "fix" your mate.
sbgrace
If you know them well Getting the Love you Want by Hendrix or The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by Gottman are both books that could make a real difference in a marriage including making a good and solid one even better. Negin
This book is absolutely gorgeous. I would get it used, since new is, more than $500! You should be able to get a nice used edition.
danybug
Not sure if they are Christian, but I am reading the most phenomenal marriage book. It is "What Did You Expect: Redeeming the Realities of Marriage" by Paul Tripp. Gosh, I would have to say it is the best one I have read on marriage. Another one is "Sacred Marriage". Oh, and another great one is "Chocolate Kisses for Couples" by Cindy Dagnan. These has great stuff for any couple.
Ottakee
Thanks for the ideas. I will be checking them out. I don't think there are any problems in the marriage, but I know as a young married couple, that 2nd year was really tough and I sure could have used some encouragement/guideance about that time. momofmiracles
I would highly recommend the book, "Love and Respect" by Emerson Eggerichs. My husband and I read this book and found it the most helpful in understanding our differences. A man most desires unconditional respect and a woman most desires unconditional love. Mrs. A
Dave Ramsey's books, like Total Money Makeover. If you get the money stuff sorted out lots of other stuff gets fixed too. You'd need to present it in a "this helped me" way, not a "I think you need help way" :) :iagree::iagree::iagree: this was the first book that came to mind when I read the title of the thread. My parents actually gave this book to DH and me for our first anniversary and I can't even begin to express how thankful I am! :001_smile:
