If you don't plan to get Excel at some point and want something similar installed on your computer, Open Office is free. Open Office's Calc program is a spreadsheet program and it can open Excel documents and save in Excel format as well if you will need to exchange files with others. If it's just for a short period, then I'd go with google docs.

I agree with downloading Open Office. That's all we use here and I really like it.
