ButterfliesandBooks
Hello all, I'd like to do a Mayflower unit study with my children. Can anyone recommend any good websites/printables/books, etc. My children are 13 and 9. Thanks :)
Just Robyn
My ds has read If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 and A Journey to the New World. He really liked A Journey to the New World and it seemed to really stick with him.
ThelmaLou
Since you have a 13 year old girl, check this one out: http://www.amazon.com/Almost-Home-Mayflowers-Chilton-Daughters/dp/0802436374/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314876516&sr=8-1 It received 5 star reviews across the boards from 22 readers. Alas, I have all boys, so I didn't buy this one, but I'm sure a boy could enjoy it as well. Lisa
paceofnature
I use to work on the Mayflower :) If you visit Plimoth.org they have an education page with lots of activities to do. Some/most may be geared more for 17th century Plymouth, but you may see info on the Mayflower.
sbgrace
There are wonderful resources online. I created a couple of units last year and posted them on my blog. I've collected tons of great hands on ideas, online resources, videos, interactives, games, and etc. that I'm sure you could use and one section of the Plymouth unit includes lots of Mayflower resources and ideas. Here is the unit about Plymouth Colony and here is a unit on Wampanoag that I did prior to the Plymouth unit. Shifra
Mayflower 1620: A New Look at a Pilgrim Voyage I have not read it, but I did read the companion book 1621: A New Look at Thanksgiving, and it does expose all the myths that we have been taught about the English settlers.
