Liz CA
A SWAT team raided a food co-op in Venice, CA this morning, ostensibly because they were selling raw milk and raw cheese. Rather "coincidentally" 2 people who were participating in the Farmageddon movie were arrested as well as a chapter leader of the Weston Price Foundation (advocates of raw milk & cheese). Please spread the word via Facebook and any other means you can think of. Shellydon
So basically they didn't have the proper permits and got in trouble? If they had the permits, they could sell the raw milk/yogurt/cheese, right?
newlifemom
So basically they didn't have the proper permits and got in trouble? If they had the permits, they could sell the raw milk/yogurt/cheese, right? I think that is a bit yes and no. I would imagine that a store that didn't have a certain permit for meat [typical grocery store meat] probably wouldn't have a commando style swat raid. I suspect that some serious lobby power is behind the raids.
OLG
I suspect that some serious lobby power is behind the raids. This makes sense. Why would the fed spend a year running a sting on this? Why are we spending tax dollars on this craziness?

They didn't and now are paying the price.

They didn't and now are paying the price. The issue is multi-faceted. This is also about limiting consumer's choice. If you are doing your homework and trust a dairy to supply you with unpasteurized milk, you ought to be able to do so without the supplier being raided. Someone on this board just linked me this article: http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/7558-fda-raw-ron-paul-v-milk-police

As a member describes in another thread the SWAT team doesn't always shows up armed and armoured. I think there's a debate to be had over this but I'm wondering about the claims regarding how the police handled this.
