Annie Laurie
If my highschool son and I have no experience with Latin, can we start with So You Really Want to Learn Latin or do we need to go through the Latin Prep series first? Thanks.
Laura Corin
.... would be to use Latin Prep from the beginning and just go faster. I know that it is rated for late elementary/middle school, but it covers almost same ground as SY Latin, just in a more user-friendly way. When you have finished LP 3, you can study SY 3 to cover the few things where the SY programme goes further. So a high school sequence might be: Year 1: Latin Prep 1 and 2 Year 2: Latin Prep 3 and So You Really Want to Learn Latin 3 Or you could spread it out more, as you like. If you do want to use SY Latin instead of Latin Prep, you just start with book one. Latin Prep and SY Latin are independent programmes, each of which assumes not previous knowledge. Mama Lynx
I agree. I really prefer Latin Prep to SYTWTLL, for any level.
Lucky Mom
Do you think finishing the Latin Prep series could count as 1 year of high school Latin? Or would you need to add the SY 3? Thanks, Lisa

Thanks, Lisa Looking at this: Latin Scope and Sequence Based on that, finishing the Latin Prep series is more than just Latin I. LP I does not seem to be far off of this site's scope and sequence for Latin I. I think if you finish the LP series, that's probably at least the equivalent of Latin II. Leila
Can you please tell me where to find Latin Prep Series. Thank you.
Laura Corin
Thanks for this, Stephanie. I agree with you, I would say that LP 1, 2 and 3 would add up to Latin I and II, although you might need to add in more culture. Laura

Deb in NZ
My 16yod is using SYRWTL Latin 1 & is really enjoying it. My 14yos is using Latin Prep 1 & it is just the right level for him. We do an exercise a day & I use the workbook exercises as assessment. JMHO,
