Melissa in St Louis
I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide what to do for this! Please help! I'd like to do a literature based, somewhat fun/interesting, one-year overview of American History. Instructions for projects/extra activities aren't a high priority, basically I just need some hand-holding as to what books to read when. Any thoughts? I'm looking at Sonlight Intro to American History One-Year Condensed, but I'm pretty sure most of the book choices would be boring for my rising 1st grader. I've never used Sonlight, so I'm not sure exactly if it's what I'm looking for anyway. Any ideas? TIA!
grace'smom
Have you checked out Guesthollow American History? That would be a great way to integrate the two children in one program and it's free. Also- it looks like Elemental Science is coming out with an American History this year.
Melissa in St Louis
Grace's Mom, you are my HERO! I hadn't heard of either of these, and they both look awesome. THANK YOU!!!!! Any other ideas?
3lilreds in NC
Another option would be Adventures from MFW. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :D
Mert
Have you checked out Guesthollow American History? This was the first thing that came to mind. I'm using quite a few books she's recommended. :001_smile: Beautiful Feet also has wonderful book suggestions and a reasonably priced teacher's guide. http://www.bfbooks.com/Literature-Packs/Early-American-History-Packs
ChiknGirl
We did Guesthollow American History this past school year. I tweaked it a bit. My dd enjoyed it. :D

DianeW88
Take a look at Winterpromise, too. They have an American history curriculum that's fun and aimed at those age ranges. http://www.winterpromise.com/ Homeschool in the Woods is another great one. http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/ As well as Trail Guide to Learning. http://www.geomatters.com/learning_series/ I've used them all (in combination, actually), and they're all excellent and my kiddos have enjoyed them. twoxcell
Heart of Dakota Beyond, or Bigger. MFW Adventures. One of these might work for you.
