OnTheBrink
I know you've all been waiting with baited breath to find out how I solved my dining room table conundrum. :D Well, after weeks of scouring Craigslist (why do people never return calls or emails when they're trying to sell something?), Walmart.com, CNSstores.com and Ikea.com, and all the local furniture store sites, I finally made it up to Ikea (both of them!) and came home with this: Table I may paint the legs black this spring and leave the top natural, but it does everything I need it to do. It has a leaf so it can seat 6 if I need too, and it's not too large for the space or too small to seat 4 w/o the leaf. Ta-da!
hsmom
perfect. Are you going to put some kind of coating on the top? It will help with scratches and stains.
OnTheBrink
It has a clear acrylic lacquer, but I am considering adding another coat of that. I don't know how tough the lacquer that's on it is. The table doesn't feel like it has a thick coating, but maybe lacquer is stronger than I think. hsmom
My new table looked and felt that it did, but I found out the hard way it was not thick enough.
