Is anyone doing Song School Latin with a K'er

I have purchased this and it looks great!! I am just not sure it will work for Kindergarten. If you are using it, would you tell me if you are using it in its full capacity, or are you using bits and pieces? Thank you!

We mostly listened to the CD in K and this year in 1st he's doing the workbook along with the listening.

Good Idea! I think that I may do this. My dd is not quite ready for writing, so we will save the workbook for next year. Thanks!!

My DD4 listens along with DS9. She knows all the songs. I think she could easily handle the workbook next year as a kindergartener.

We are doing bits and pieces. Mostly we listen to the CD and do the coloring pages. Keeping it fun is what makes it something my kids (especially my k-er) request SSL each day. Occasionally I'll give them a page out of the workbook, but that's rare. Next year my kids can go through again and actually do the pages.

Yeah, I'd suggest waiting until first grade to take full advantage of the book. They could then do the writing involved, as well as possibly read it as well.

 

If you already have the CD, listening to it in K would be fun.

I used it full on with Becca her K year. She and Sylvia learned a lot from it. The only problem was that there wasn't a good bridge from it to another program, so we haven't done Latin since. We hope to start LfC A in the fall.

I'm doing it with a 4 year old and a 7 year old. The 4 year old is way more into it, and is usually the lesson-instigator. We do what feels appropriate from the workbook orally, in addition to the CD.

I'd hold off a year for an average K'er, especially if writing is still a chore for them. They probably *could* do it orally, but they'll get much more out of it if they wait.

 

That said, the K'er in my sig is doing SSL this year, but she's a precocious one. She's doing second grade language arts in kindy size bites. I wouldn't have done it with my current 2nd grader when he was in K.

On another recent thread an employee of CAP said they're currently writing SSL 2. :001_smile: If it's done in time I'll be going this way for that precocious kinder; she won't be mature enough for LFC when she finishes SSL.

There was a mention in another thread of an upcoming SSL2. Should that actually come to exist within a reasonable timeframe, we'll go on to that for the 4 year old.

 

The 7 year old should be ready for one of the more formal beginning Latin programs, or I may switch to English from the Roots Up and start on Spanish, depending on where I see his interests going.
