chiguirre
When I was little my mom had a cream called Father Eustace (or Eustis or ???) Ointment. It was for soothing galded skin. Does this ring a bell with anyone and does it still exist somewhere? ETA: I grew up in Pittsburgh and it might have been a regional product. Parrothead
Forgive my ignorance what is "galded skin"?
chiguirre
It's red, irritated skin from chafing and not letting the skin breath. Actually, galded might be a regionalism too. I've never heard it except as a girl, but it's not a hot topic of conversation either.

Haven't heard of this, but wondered if you had checked The Vermont Country Store? They have a website (I did a quick check and this product didn't come up), and you can also get a hard copy catalog. They have lots of older items - browsing the catalog is sometimes a trip down memory lane. I think they also have a request form for products you are looking for - they will see if they can get them, if it's worth marketing, etc. Hope you find the product! They love bringing things like that back into the marketplace, so even if they don't have it VCS might look for it. If this was patented, there might even be a formula on file somewhere. AuntieM
Galded! So is that the term for my shins that have become dry, red and irritated from being all wrapped in boots and leggings for the brutal cold? Edited January 25, 2011 by AuntieM I have a love/hate relationship with autocorrect.
eaglei
Another idea dh had: Do you have any independent, old-time, family-owned pharmacies in your area? If so, ask the pharmacist there about this product. Often, they are familiar with older items and even know where to get them if they are still available. Quite some time ago, dh and I went to a family-run pharmacy near where we live and inquired about an old item we were looking for. Not only was the pharmacist surprised that *young* people knew about it, but he also knew that it was still made and ordered it for us. The pharmacy chains (CVS, Rite-aid, etc.) hadn't a clue what we were talking about.
