BikeBookBread
Oh man, I laughed so hard! There's a new show on the IFC network called Portlandia. I grew up in Seattle, and had relatives in SW Washington and Portland, OR. I visited Portland a TON growing up. These people have nailed it! No offense is meant, whatsoever, to Portlandites. funschooler5
Just watched it tonight...it's so true! My favorite part was Steve Buscemi in the women's book store, when they talk about puzzle stores.
Momling
I wonder though... is it so funny if you've never lived in Portland? All of the references to places... Or maybe you just need to live in a town that prides itself on its crunchiness...?
stormy weather
:lol: I loved the league of adult hide and seek players. I've never been to Portland but this reminded me of a town near me(several actually) where everyone is very super-duper crunchy grungy. Vida Winter
 Portland, the city we (from eastern OR) love to hate. LOL.
Negin
Can't see it in our country. I lived in Ptld for 4 1/2 years - my undergrad years. Loved it. Loved the crunchiness. Did not like the rain, however. I'm just not a cold-weather, rain, sort-of-person. Love visiting there, however.
ondreeuh
We really enjoyed the show. On my side of town it's fairly moderate, but there are definitely areas that are as Portland as the show describes. What, you don't have your own bongo drum, and you buy non-vegan marshmallows? I went to a doula class and I was the ONLY one with a Nalgene bottle - everyone else had either stainless stell or a glass mason jar. True story. Now I'm meeting a lot of unschoolers who eat strictly paleo ... it's "in" to be radical around here.

HA HA HA! I don't know why this is so funny, but it CRACKED me up!!!!
Momling
it's "in" to be radical around here. But, you know, once everyone has the mason jar, it's no longer radical or interesting at all and they'll have to find something new. I've decided around here if you want to be truly radical -- you just need to put on a pair of panty hose and carry a briefcase, or have your kids wear a Barbie backpack, or claim to be a republican, or be seen eating a twinkie. Only then can you be a true radical. I dare you!
ondreeuh
:lol::lol: Oh, you get it! It's hard enough to tell fellow homeschoolers that my oldest is in PS and I'm planning to put my youngest in preschool (after they just announced that they homeschool because they actually LIKE being around their kids!). I can just imagine showing up to book club in a Palin sweatshirt with a big gulp. :tongue_smilie:
