wy_kid_wrangler04
order of high school math? My dd will be doing geometry in 9th, algebra 2 in 10th, what comes next? Is it trigonometry in 11th then pre-calculus in 12th? What is the college algebra course that chalkdust has? Where would that fit in? (we use chalkdust so it has me wondering)
Amy in TX
The traditional order is geometry, alg 2, pre-calc (which includes trig), then calculus. (Sorry I don't know about the Chalkdust course.)
Janice in NJ
From Chalkdust Web Site: What programs do you recommend for a science major? Basic Math, Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus I. The humanities major may substitute College Algebra for Precalculus, or just study the College Algebra portion of Precalculus if you want to use one program for several children. http://chalkdust.com/faq.html On their PreCalc Program: 5th edition: FULL SET is 18 DVDs, hardbound text, student solutions guide, and technical support. This program includes College Algebra, Trigonometry and Limits. http://chalkdust.com/precal.html Hope that helps, Janice
Jann in TX
Pre-Calculus is a 2-semester course. The first semester is College Algebra and the second semester is Trig. College Algebra is the highest level of college math necessary for most non-math/science majors. If your student knows they will not go into a math/science field then you can take a 'business Math' class or Statistics instead of Calc--- OR you can stretch Pre-Calc over 2 years-- there is PLENTY of material to to that easily!
