kristavws
where would you live, and why would you choose to live there? Thanks, Krista
JennifersLost
Wow - weird question to stumble across this morning, LOL. If you like big city life, I'd pick somewhere near Vancouver, obviously, but I don't know the neighborhoods/towns well enough to guide you. If you're looking for a place with land where you can grow things, check out the Oakanagan. If you're looking to move to the back of beyond, and you like salmon fishing/skiing/etc., try my town - Terrace - (we're selling our house, btw - it's over 3000 sf living space remodeled head to toe!) Smithers is another town on HWY 16 that has great skiing, etc. I don't like Prince George, personally, but I haven't spent too much time there. What are you looking for? It's a big province, LOL. Heather in the Kootenays
But it depends what you want. We have a good climate - milder than most of BC but not as mild as the coast and lots of recreational activities close by. My valley has 15,000 people - not too few and not too many. However, we're 3 hours from the nearest large airport and medical specialists are 1 1/2 hours away. It's also hard to leave in the winter because of difficult roads. kpupg
where would you live, and why would you choose to live there? Penticton Small-town atmosphere, great climate.
Heather in the Kootenays
of the one place in the Okanogan that I'd move - Naramata - great lake plus the Naramata Centre and still close enough to the larger communities to get services. ...................
I'm obsessed with Canada. I've never been there but I'm convinced I'd love the winter life there. How ignorant of me. Anyway I'm just encouraging you.:001_smile:
kristavws
Small-town atmosphere, great climate. Would you mind describing the climate? What kind of cultural and outdoor activities does this area offer? Is there a decent size homeschooling community? Thanks for your help! Rose in BC
I live on the north coast and am happy to raise my family here. The weather, however, is not always cooperative. It's relatively mild but wet (with the potential for lots of snow in winter). My mom lived in Kelowna (Okanagan) which has a dry climate and warm summers (good fruit growing area). It is, however, unaffordable to buy or rent homes there. My niece lives in Smithers which is a lovely, small town with a drier climate than the northcoast (and only 2.5 hours away from me). She complains it is too small and expensive. I love Vancouver Island. I have never lived there but all three of my children were born there and we spent time in Victoria during their adoption process. My sister lives in Nanaimo a city on Vancouver Island. Victoria is great. Probably expensive -- I don't know. I have family in the Fraser Valley (inland of Vancouver). We enjoy visiting there. Lots of amenities. Expensive. I guess I would say another advantage to my area is housing is relatively inexpensive. British Columbia is overall a beautiful province. battlemaiden
Vancouver Island I love the Comox area. My aunt and uncle live there and I've walked/hiked miles and miles in the region. Beautiful and relatively mild. My cousins live in Cowichan Bay, which is north of Victoria. It's beautiful, has a thriving art community as well as a strong emphasis on local organic markets etc. I would chose the island over the mainland- but of course money is no object, right? Jean in Newcastle
Sooke, Vancouver Island. I fell in love with it on our honeymoon!
kristavws
We would really like to look in an area similar to where we live now (Pacific NW). We are about 1 1/2 hours from the coast, 1 1/2 hours from the mountains. We are in a smaller size town, but can make it to a large city in around 30-45 minutes. We would probably want a minimum of 10-acres. I guess I should have been more specific in my original post!!
