Beth in SW WA
Lapbooks or projects for grade 3'ish? Dd7 is loving LW and I'm looking to add a crafty project. This is the only one I found here at Curriclick. Thanks in advance! Edited December 20, 2010 by Beth in SW WA typo
JennW in SoCal
Hi Beth! I was just wandering through the boards, killing time and saw your post here and on the other thread (thanks for the kind words). My favorite book when I was elementary age was a biography of Lousia May Alcott, but it never occurred to anyone (teachers, parents) to hand me a copy of Little Women to read!! I finally read it as an adult. Would you conisider watching a movie version with your dd? I liked the recent one with Winona Ryder, and it brings to mind the scenes showing Jo's ink stained hands. Would your dd like to try writing with a quill? It is quite the challenge, and to imagine writing an entire book, by hand, with a quill and inkwell, boggles my modern mind. I also think of hoop skirts and profiles done in silhouette, which you could take turns doing of one another. And I think of creating plays. I'm so glad your dd is enjoying these books! Sharing favorite books, and discovering new ones, has been one of my favorite parts of parenting.
elizabeth
She is at an ideal age for cross stitch. Aida cloth is best for a young lady. Here is a link to some lovely Little Women inspired pieces. http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/itemdetail.pl?item=10-2623 I think this might be a lot of fun and then you can have her pieces framed as well. I have a link here for excellent Cross Stitch information for a new stitcher. http://www.thecrossstitchguild.com/Cross_Stitch_Basics/Stitch_Basics.aspx I taught myself and have found that as dd became older and thus more independent in her academics this is a great way to be present, available but not simply sitting and reading. These are prestamped so she just forms a little x on each marked on the fabric with floss colors she likes and voila , a real honest to goodness motto piece just like what the March sisters might have done. Can you tell I love embroidery?? http://www.countrystitching.com/Motto_c_18.html Edited December 21, 2010 by elizabeth link -du-oh
