Mommamia
Anyone ever use this? I noticed that our local private school uses this in 2nd grade. I'm curious:bigear:
angela in ohio
I don't use a set program, but I have the book, and I use many of the ideas in with other things. It is suprisingly good, considering it is used in the public schools, as they often don't pick quality materials for language arts. :001_smile:
eloquacious
I used to teach this, so I clicked on the link ... but I can't really offer any advice as to homeschool use. The sad bit is, four years on, I couldn't remember what the traits were. :(
Irishmommy
I used this in my classroom when I taught 9th grade English. I loved that it gave us a vocabulary with which to discuss writing. I could easily explain to them the lacking parts of their papers in terms they could understand. That part of the program was invaluable. Also, I created rubrics for evaluation based on the traits, which helped in the communication as well. I don't know about it in the early years because I have no idea what it would look like on the lower levels. I'm not sure how it would teach the nuts and bolts format of writing. If there is only one book that I could recommend for writing, it would be The Art of Styling Sentences by Killgallon. I'm not sure what the elementary book is called. The theory behind it is excellent. Teaching the sentence first makes so much sense. I often wish my stuents had written good sentences first, then organized them into paragraphs. It would have made my instruction MUCH easier. Found the Killgallon book: http://www.heinemann.com/products/E00223.aspx
