kalanamak
Someone at work has a set-up where her 12 and 14 year old girls go to a private school parttime and study only "academic subjects". No art, music, PE, no science labs, etc. just bookwork on the three Rs and textbook history. They are home alone, I think, in the afternoon (I work with mom), and she in on the phone telling them to build a ziggurat from food. She is asking about websites for "projects" for them to do. She's never heard of lapbooking. The girls make "magazines" with a cover, articles they write, pictures, and even ads, on a certain topic. But she'd like to branch into some science, etc. Any ideas? They are not rolling in money.
TechWife
Tell her to check out Hands of a Child - they make lap book project packs on almost every subject imaginable. They have very clear directions, the templates for the booklets are there, study information and usually a list of additional reading. For the cost of the project pack (I think they can be downloaded), some file folders & construction paper (or card stock) they can do an involved study on music, visual arts, chemistry, etc. The project packs all have age ranges on them and there are lap book guides for the age ranges she is looking for. Kates
I agree - Hands of a Child would be a perfect choice. They can choose from pretty much any topic out there, and the kids can work on them at their own pace (and on their own when needs be). They'll also be building essential skills and making projects they're both proud of and can continually learn from. :)
