Question about Singapore Math

I did 1A with my son last year and had no idea I was supposed to use a textbook AND a workbook. I thought they were one and the same, yes you can laugh.

So I'm getting ready to start this year and noticed the workbook notations at the bottom of the pages. I went to homeschool classifieds and bought the 1A "workbook" and when it came it's the same as the textbook.

Can someone please help me?

The textbooks are in color, have more illustrations and less problems on the page. The workbooks are in black and white, and are meant to be written in.
