happygrrl
I just saw this on a Yahoo group I belong to. I haven't tried it, but thought some of you might be interested. Homemade Dishwasher Detergent by Mary Audet, Planet Green 1 cup washing soda 1 cup borax 1/2 cup kosher salt 1/2 cup citric acid 1 Tb per load use white vinegar in the rinse dispenser Let me know if it turns out! Lilymax
I haven't used that recipe exactly, but I used a mix of washing soda and borax once when we were out of detergent and it didn't work at all. There was a weird white film over the glasses and everything felt greasy. The citric acid in this recipe might eliminate that. I'm a little leery of trying a homemade mixture again, but if I can figure the proportions to try this once, I might. (I've read to use unsweetened lemonade Kool Aid mix for the citric acid). Scuff
I've heard the citric acid helps a lot. I've tried it both ways and while it was better with the CA, Not good enough. If I'm going to used a dishwasher, it needs to be convenent and easy.
JoyfulMama
I tried a homemade one before, and it also left a white residue. It didn't have washing soda in it. I know I used Kool-aid Lemonade for the citric acid, though. So who is going to be the guinea pig???
Mommy22alyns
I tried that recipe with Kool-Aid for the CA. It just felt like the dishes weren't getting clean enough and DH hated it.
