BikeBookBread
...at the Atlanta airport - he just texted me. The fallen Marine was escorted by a Marine officer. I'm so sad. This is particularly poignant, as my friend's husband is an AF rescue officer, and two of his troops were killed yesterday in a helicopter attack. This is not classified -- it was on the news yesterday. If you haven't seen "Taking Chance", please do so. It is neutral on the topic of the war, but respectufully honors of the sacrifices made by our military members.

Pretty in Pink
My dh is currently deployed in Afghanistan. He called home today to tell me that he had just attended a fallen warrior ceremony for a fellow Marine. There are no words. All I could think was, "Oh my God, that could have been you," but all that I said was, "I'm so sorry," and, "I love you." I will take a look at the film you recommended, but probably not until my dh is home.
freeindeed
:( I am so grateful for our brave men and women in the services. My ds(almost 18) leaves for Army basic training on July 12. I'm so proud of him, but also scared of the possibilities.
cjbeach
:grouphug:So appreciative to all who serve. One day last summer I hit a line of traffic going to our local Veteran's Memorial area where a ceremony was to take place. I had to drive behind the procession line for a 28 yo local guy who had been killed in action. I think he was AF. Oh my goodness. It was so wonderfully heartbreaking to see everyone stop and stand still until the procession passed. All of the local Vets here showed up to stand by the road saluting. One woman held a banner "Proud Army mom." There were about 50 or 60 local Biker Vets all escorting the procession. When I pulled into my dh's work he and all of his coworkers who were all ex-military stood on the balcony saluting. Of course I was bawling by this point. It still sends shivers down my spine. pooh bear
A lady I know, her husband was killed in Afghanistan by a 13 yo suicide bomber. All fallen soldiers are repatriated via Wootton Bassett in the UK. When the hearses drive through town, the whole town come to a stand still. I have never seen such a moving sight in all my life. No matter what our feelings about war are, we are all united in grief, even if we do not know the solider personally.
