Embassy
I am looking for a science program for my soon to be first grader. I need something that is mostly hands-on experiments. Some living books with pictures would be nice, but it would need to be a minor part. He has gone through RS4K pre-level Chemistry and a unit study on the ocean so far. He is very visual and needs hands-on activities that will demonstrate the concepts. I appreciate any input.

Lorax
You may want to look at Real Science Life.
Tracy
Love BFSU. It has wonderful, detailed lessons with great suggestions for books you can get from the library to supplement. Tracy
Mom-ninja.
I say either REAL Science Odyssey or NOEO. Both are hands on with REAL being more hands on. NOEO has great books. I actually have been using REAL and reading the books that NOEO uses.
mcconnellboys
Mudpies to Magnets? More Mudpies to Magnets? ANY experiment book by Janice Van Cleave. Nearly any Science in a Nutshell kit (if you can find them). Fun with Atoms and Molecules books (Mebane and Rybolt, I believe, are the authors - there are 8 books in the series)..... Tonia
If you want something that is just experiments we really enjoy Sonlight. I don't do the whole curriculum - just the dvd, experiment book, and consummable and non-consummable (only need to buy once for all levels) kits for whatever level looks interesting. Combined with some library books it would be more than enough for first grade.
hsmom
you can get science in a nutshell here. Then there are these. We really liked them.
