LinRTX
My 16yo has had a cold for 3-4 days. It started out with a bad cough and sore throat. Now her head is conjested and her ear hurts. The worse is her ear. Is ther anything that would help the ear pain? Should I take her to the doctor? Thanks
ChristusG
She could have an ear infection....but my ears hurt when my sinuses are congested, even with no infection. And the ear pain starts to go away when the sinuses begin to clear.
Mrs Mungo
Try using a hair dryer to blow warm air on her ear. The best home remedy that is not recommended by many doctors is to drip warm (not too hot!) olive oil in the ear. Oh my gosh, it makes if feel so much better. However, doctors do not recommend it because it could introduce additional bacteria if the ear drum has ruptured. eta: I would take her to the doctor if the sinus pain lasted more than a few days or if the infection seemed like it had moved to her chest. Tracy in Ky
Can you give her a little sudaphed? That might help clear her ears out a little.

I think Dr Sears recommends the warm oil. I infuse mine with garlic sometimes. The oil thing is my last line of defense, if that doesn't work I go crying to Dr for antibiotics.
