Diagramming help please.

UPDATE****

Because I knew you were all sleeplessly wandering around, wondering where the IO should go. :D

I found in a diagramming book that you can indeed do it either way. I am not sure which one I like b/c one way it looks like a preposition (a little) and the other it looks like a DO. I will have to ponder this more. :tongue_smilie:

OMT has you diagram the indirect object under the verb, while Essentials of the English Language, which is similar to Shurley English, has you put it on the predicate line like a direct object in between the verb and the direct object.

Is this a style preference, or is one way better than the other?

What say the hive?

TIA

I'm curious because I've never seen diagramming in Shurley. We only parsed in Shurley and took up diagramming in R & S. Maybe they've added it to the books since I bought them several years ago?

Thanks,

Lisa

That's right. Now I have no idea where this idea of the IO in between the verb and DO came from. I will have to find out, b/c that is something that will bother me. :tongue_smilie:

As sorry as I am to state, it was kinda bugging me, too, lol! What book did you find it in?
