Myra
Hi- I'm a home schooling parent that teaches/facilitates at a large homeschooling co-op. I'd like to have the teens do a full school term environmental project that would involve intensive field work, labs, research, data collection and analysis, etc. We live in Upstate New York so have access to the rural as well as city habitats. So I was wondering if anyone has ideas for the project or curriculum or websites or anything to get me jump- started! Help! Myra

Moira in MA
Have you considered the Canon Envirothon Competition?
Jane in NC
Have you considered the Canon Envirothon Competition? Funny you should mention this. I spent yesterday at our regional Envirothon competition (my son's fourth event--NC sponsors middle and high school competitions). His team did not come home with a trophy, but they nonetheless qualified for the state event (which will again be his fourth). Obviously we are into Envirothon! Here in NC, students study material in five disciplines: Wildlife, Soils, Aquatics, Forestry and Current Enviromental Issues. We spend a few months preparing team members by having them read and study their materials, as well as attend field trips and meetings with experts like soil scientists and foresters. In NC, the event is sponsored by our Soil and Water Conservation Districts. I am not sure how one finds regional or state events in other places.
