cin
Then watching the Disney version counts as school, right? :001_unsure: I mean, how else would one know how to pronounce the names???
Daisy
LOL. Sounds like a Venn Diagram activity. Compare and contrast the original version with the Disney version. Fun!
OhM
DD has been reading from The Jungle Book lately - I've been thinking of how Riki Tiki Tavi was televised annually when we were kids and how much I liked it. Wonder if the library has it?
Suzanne in ABQ
Then watching the Disney version counts as school, right? :001_unsure: I mean, how else would one know how to pronounce the names??? My dh has never allowed Disney's Jungle Book into the house because he is adamant about how far removed it is from the original story. It's not really the same story! It's more like Tarzan, with a dancing bear. ;) He doesn't feel that strongly about many things, so I never pushed it. He read the Jungle Books, and the Just So Stories, and I treasured that time for the kids. So, I wouldn't call Disney's Jungle Book school. It's more Anti-school around here. :) But, to each her own! Hope you had a fun day. :)
Ravin
There's a non-Disney animated version that's better (closer to the spirit/style/plot of the book). And I'd love to see an animated Riki-Tiki-Tavi, that was always my favorite Jungle Book story as a kid! The White Seal probably came in second. MamaBearTeacher
We read the book and then watched the movie. My children liked both. I don't think watching the movie hurt their appreciation of the book in any way.
JFSinIL
Try and get the 1940ish version with Sabu - much more Kiplingish, if you know what I mean. The Disney version makes me ill.
