mamato3 all-boy boys
My boys have had a very young, cartoonish version of Pilgrim's Progress for years (similar to this one, but in English!) and I'd like to get my oldest a more complete version for him to read through. When I search "child's pilgrim's progress" at CBD, I get 40 choices. Can anyone give me a recommendation? My son is a 5th grader, but reads well above his grade level; still, I'd like it to be something that he can grasp fully and that relates well for a pre-teen kiddo. thanks! jjcmehl
Here is a good list of ideas from Ambleside Online... http://www.amblesideonline.org/PilgrimProgress.shtml In the end, we chose "Little Pilgrim's Progress" (contains both Pilgrim's Progress and Christiana's Journey) by Helen L. Taylor for the quality and price!
Teachaheart
I've used Little Pilgrim's Progress with 3rd and 4th graders with great success. It is a very good version and quite engaging. You could also consider The Pilgrim's Progress in Modern English published by Bridge Logos. ISBN: 0-88270-757-4. It is very readable, and each chapter contains notes with Scripture references and explanations. Christiana's story is included as well. It also contains a short section on the life of John Bunyan and a chart comparing the experiences of Christian and Christiana. On the inside of both covers is a colorful timeline listing major events and people in Christian history, Christian authors, secular history and secular authors and artists. laughing lioness
I agree with Little Pilgrim's Progress. My 4th grader has read it twice and I've been reading it outloud to a group of first graders, but the 2 9th grade helpers love it as well. hsmom3tn
We recently read-aloud Little Pilgrim's Progress by Helen Taylor and it was great. It was easy to understand, we had many good discussions, and all really enjoyed it.
MaryCatherine
My Father's World uses Dangerous Journey in its Rome to Reformation package. I haven't used that year yet, so I can't comment on that particular book, but it's said to be for 4th-8th graders. It might be worth a look.
