Printer Recommendations Please

Recommended Posts

Our printer died. It's a Canon MP780. Apparently it needs a new motherboard, so fixing it with labor would be at least half the cost of a new one. We use the printing, copying (B&W and color) and faxing feature. We're thinking of buying a new one and maybe getting this one fixed later.

Wouldn't you know my son has an assignment for co-op that is due tomorrow - typed!

Any recommendations? We hope to get one today.

We got a Canon MX330 and it was on sale at Best Buy for something like $79! We saw it on-line at Best Buy for around $100, but when we called the local store we found out it was even cheaper! It has copy, fax, and color print features. Noiser than our last printer and the paper stacks in the back to be fed into the printer instead of in a drawer like our other printer, but overall a great deal.

We have an HP LaserJet M1522nf. It was a pit pricey, but sooo worth it. The copy feature is as fast (and nice) as a "real" copy machine.

ETA: Here's what it looks like: http://www.amazon.com/M1522nf-LaserJet-Multifunction-Printer-Bundle/dp/B0016JTQUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1254341228&sr=8-1

For black and white, I just don't think you can beat good old HP LaserJets. We've had two in the course of 10 years. The most recent (a 1020) has never given us one problem, and it is 3 years old.

We also have a combo scanner/printer/color inkjet HP Officejet J5780 that we rarely use for anything other than scanning (cheaper than a standalone scanner) and it's been good, too. I just hate buying ink for the thing.

Dh is in charge of those decisions because we'd just fight otherwise.

He's decided to get the brand new Brother printer that came out this month (I think it's this one http://www.brother-usa.com/mfc/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=MFC490CW). It's somewhat pricey, but it does wireless printing, which I've been nagging him about for a couple of years now!
