TulaneMama
Do you have your DC do the writing section? I had thought that we would use create-a-story this year but am now wondering if this combined with the writing section might be too much for my reluctant writer (already going through WWE and outlining and summarizing). Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?
Strawberry Queen
I've never used the writing section. I've always felt that there is waay too little space to write anything meaningful. Periodically I will have a dd write a sentence about the topic but not much else. If your kids like the suggestions then by all means use them. Mine have never seemed interested.;)
lauracolumbus
If it looks like something fun, or my kids ask to do it, we do, but normally not.
TulaneMama
okay - is that the only part you do not do? we are going to use the lists this year in conjunction w/ spellingcity.com
Harriet Vane
I cannot stand the writing assignments in SWO, though I think the rest of the program is great. I do not see much value in trying to come up with some silly story that uses the words from the spelling list. Honestly, there are much better ways to teach writing. I would say to do just the spelling exercises from SWO and do a separate writing curriculum. For whatever it's worth, I have a degree in writing. Guest janainaz
I don't use that section and never have. My ds9 does enough writing throughout his day. Plus, the topics they give to write about don't quite seem to connect in with the spelling list. I always find their writing prompts a bit odd! TulaneMama
oh good - I don't feel so odd now about leaving it out! :p
tdeveson
I skip the writing section. We do enough writing with our other subjects.
alexfam
SW never worked for us b/c ds would only miss 1 or 2 words per lesson. But if you have a reluctant writer I wouldn't double up the writing.
Chris in VA
Whew! I am so glad others don't use the writing section! I thought maybe I should be, but just could never get into it. Thanks everyone!
