Need suggestions for independent-work curriculum for 5th grader

I'm posting this on behalf of a good friend.

Due to family circumstances, my friend is looking for curriculum her rising 5th grader can work on as independently as possible. The child does well academically, is a strong reader, and has good reading comprehension skills. The family has always homeschooled, but has used various parent-child interactive curriculum. That won't work for them this year.

One major requirement is that all of the choices be secular.

I'd like to gather your suggestions and pass them on to my friend.

Thank you!

Math: Teaching Textbooks

Grammar: Growing with Grammar

Writing: Time for Writing (I’m sure there are others)

IEW student intensive- is taught to the student

Wordsmith can also be done semi-independently

Spelling: Calvert spelling on CD?

Logic: Mindbenders on CD

Hmm, I sort of stumped when it comes to the other subjects. Maybe she could have a look at my new find; Starline Press

Or this one- http://www.globalstudentnetwork.com/

History --

Milliken's social studies workbooks can be used independently and are secular. They say they're for older kids, but ignore that.

Art --

Artistic Pursuits is written directly to the child from the 4th grade level up.

Science --

Home Science Tools is a bit on the youngish side for 5th grade, but it is written to the children and can be done independently, and is secular. I think any science kit would work just fine, really. Thames and Kosmos and Wild Goose are well respected.

What about some of the Galore Park materials? For literature, it's relatively easy to find books and usually some lists of questions, and there are workbooks for reading comprehension from Evan Moore and others. Daily Geography is another useful resource from them.
