Murphy101
okay. let's say you couldn't use the internet or the library (but you have a printer!) what non consumable (or nearly so) curriculum items, materials, or whatever would you invest in to insure you could homeschool for K - 12th grades without having to continue buying curriculum every year? Satori
Hi Martha! I'm just starting out, but you might get more answers posting this question in the K-8 Curriculum Board forum. :)

Heather in WI
For non-consumable curriculum, I love my Rod and Staff grammar & science books. For history for the younger years, I would buy the Story of the World series along with the corresponding readers/read alouds from Sonlight. I think wall maps (the US & World), a globe, a periodic table of the elements poster, a microscope, and books, books, books are all good things to invest in. :)
Denise in Florida
It is fairly easy to develop your own curriculum for many subjects. The best books on this are Ruth Beechick's "3 R's Series" and "You Can Teach Your Child Successfully" the first is for grades K-3 (math, reading, language arts) and the second is 4-8 (all subjects). With these books you can create your own curriculum with the support of some good reference books. The other book I would recommend is "How to Write Your Own Low-Cost/No-Cost Curriculum" by Borg Hendrickson. This is an older book you can probably find it used. This is a fantastic resource for planning your K thru 6th grade years. It covers not only what to teach but helps you design approachs that fit your goals, values and learning styles. Any of these books will be far more valuable than an individual textbook or program.
