atozmom
I need some co-op ideas for grades K-3. It is only for part of the year, so we will only meet 12 times. I need something that doesn't involve too much planning. We already have classes for just play time, outdoor games, music, and art. I need something academic for this age group. I would like to keep the class affordable so more families can participate. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance!! JudoMom
Five in a Row was a success for K-1 (it was requested as a repeat using new books). Geography using Galloping the Globe was a success for K-2. Science is always fun for that age group, but I don't have any specific recommendations.
mom2att
There's an Ancient Civilizations History Pockets book that I was looking at for this age group. An academic subject with a hands on approach--might be a winner!
atozmom
Thank you for the suggestions. :) I now have History Pockets, Literature Pockets and FIAR on my list to look at. Anyone know of an easy open and go lesson plan for the Parables of Jesus?
coffeefreak
When we were doing a co-op, we used Keepers of the Faith and Five In a Row as a jumping off point. If you're just looking for topics, (like science), you could always go to a teacher supply store and pick up a $10-$15 Unit study book on what you want to cover. We did Insects and Evan Moor had some great books with reproducibles and experiments in them. I also have a great Earth Science book that talked about recycling and had the kids make bird feeders out of household items. HTH! Mom0012
I used Galloping the Globe when I taught a 1st grade coop class a few years ago. It was a lot of fun because there were lots of opportunities for hands on activities. We also tried some foods from different countries. skaterbabs
Somewhere around here I have a Beatrix Potter unit study designed for k-4th grade. I'll look for it and post the name of the book. It's very well designed, and is very much open and go.
