Independent chapter/series books for dd 7.5??

My dd 7.5 has read all of the following:

Princess Ellie series

Magic Treehouse/Merlin Missions series

Boxcar Children

Meg Mackintosh mysteries

Young Princesses Around the World series

Dolphin Adventure trilogy

Pony Pals series

...and various others at this reading level.

I want to bump up the quality and reading level of her independent books.

Is there a series of books that fits into this category? We buddy read Nim's Island together, as well as Half Magic. I'm thinking the rest of the Half Magic series would be good, but are there any others? I'm looking for something wholesome, of course. She's not quite ready, I think, for something at the level of Misty of Chincoteague, but she's outgrown the series books on the level I mentioned above.

Any help? Thanks so much!

Thanks for the replies! Keep them coming! (she is a voracious reader....)

I am getting several of the "Childhood of Famous Americans" books for summer reading -- so thank you -- it's nice to know I'm on the right track.

I forgot to mention she has also read all of the American Girl books, but I'm off to look for the others!

Thanks again....:)

Here are lots of book ideas from several past threads. Don't be put off by if it's labeled for "boy" or "girl" -- MOST of the books work for both boys and girls. Enjoy! Warmest regards, Lori D.

Taking notes..

My ds is turning into a voracious reader as well, and I know he'll be reading these soon enough!

Thank you :)

Perhaps you can try Stuart Little by E.B. White.

My daughter moved from that level into Charlotte's Web, followed by the Ramona books, the Betsy books (B is for Betsy, Betsy and Star, etc.), and pretty quickly into the Little House books. She still revisits the Pony Pals books, though. She also read several of the Animal Ark series before she realized that they all have exactly the same plot.

On the same reading level as Pony Pals: Animal Ark, The Littles, Horrible Harry, Time Warp Trio, Magic Schoolbus Chapter books, Arthur chapter books, Junie B. Jones, Amber Brown, Encyclopedia Brown, Clyde Bulla books (author).

My dd LOVED the COFA's, read them for years and years, just devouring them. In fact, she just recently informed me that of course she loves history, because most books ARE about history. Hehe, I never enlightened her that most of the books in the house are history because I bought them that way. ;)

There are over 200 COFA's, if you include the oop ones. You can get them easily through ebay and other sources, and they're definitely worth looking for. In fact, I prefer the oop versions, as they have timelines, extra activities, etc. in the back that my dd enjoyed.

Over the years we've used the TQ guides to find lots of great books. The VP catalog has great listings. Also, you can find favorite authors and collect all the works by them.

Just as a side note, don't forget to read her read alouds beyond her reading level. You want to keep the read alouds moving up to improve her vocabulary and sentence structure. It will help her recognize words as she begins to decode them and make reading literature easy and comfortable. At that age my dd loved Little House, Narnia, and the Lang Fairy Tale books.
