You create a group and everyone "joins" it on the Kiva site, under their "community" section. Then you choose someone to lend to as a group. The benefit of it is that as a group you may be able to lend the full amount someone needs right away, rather than lending your small amount and then having to wait for other people to chip in. I can't guarantee that it's better than just lending by yourself - there is the part where you have to agree on who to lend to, and everyone might have different criteria. I do love the site, though.
