Dianne-TX
I have a relative in the Dallas area who is planning on homeschooling next year. She has been told that her ds will "fail" first grade if he doesn't attain a certain reading level. Ridiculous! What I would like to know to help her is what is available in the Dallas area to help her? She lives in Roanoke specifically. What support groups would be good to guide her to? What homeschool bookstore is in the area for her? Is there a conference this summer in that area? I've given her LOTS of info. and I know it's overwhelming. I thought if I could guide her to something local it would be most helpful. Thank you.

teamturner
I've heard about a group called Smoothing the Way that is for first time hsers to help them during their first year. I knew a friend who was part of my area's local group and it helped her a lot. I'm sending you a link that has their locations/contact person and you can look on their home page and see what they are about. They had a booth at the convention last weekend plus I think the founder was a speaker there. http://smoothingtheway.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=2&Itemid=
Amy loves Bud
There is a Yahoo group for area homeschoolers: HSM2HSM. I'm sure someone on the group will be able to direct her to HS resources in her neighborhood. Flower Mound is very close to her and has a very big HSing community.
