  1. My son's SLP suggested iLs as a treatment for SPD. Is anyone doing this? What do you know about it? His SLP recommended it to the OT tb try as she is the most knowledgeable about it. They also have a Dreampad that we can check out for 2 weeks to try. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.
  2. I thought the OoSC was very informative. It explained the different senses and the systems (vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile) and gave good descriptions of how the child with SPD often has either underdeveloped or overdeveloped systems, and the behavior both causes. It helped me to see why my child does certain things- he is a sensory seeker for the most part, though avoids some auditory and touch. It was more philosophical than practical, if that makes sense. I sort of said at the end, ok, so now what?? I think that is where the RaSSC comes in. It was recommended by the clinic where my son gets speech and OT.
  3. I just finished The Out of Sync Child and am in the middle of Raising a Sensory Smart Child by Lindsey Biel and Nancy Peske. The later is super practical. Lots of good info about specific issues- what to do if your child hates a bike helmet, doesn't like hair cuts, won't take a bath, etc.
  4. Oohhh, thanks CrimsonWife. I will do that. And yes, OhE, I realize it is a drop in the bucket. I almost feel like that with the 1k for OG training, especially if it equips me to teach him well.
  5. Good to know. Yes, new is usually improved. Too bad it always comes with a price tag.
  6. Hey Ladies, I am wondering how vital it would be to obtain the newest edition of the LiPS manual? I have found several used copies of the the 3rd ed at reasonable prices. What do you think? Anyone compare the differences? Thanks so much.
  7. Definitely thinking ahead OhE. I am positive that DS 3 is going to have trouble, considering he is almost 3.5 and is still only has a working vocabulary of about 15 words. This number has tripled since starting therapy, so he is making progress. Huge breakthrough cooperqting with slp the last 2 weeks, and he started OT this week, so I am hopeful. He also passed his hearing eval, so I think we are getting close to a place to get a dx. He sees a dev ped in Jan. Our insurance is awesome. We have 24 visits of ST in 60 days, renewable with progress. Haven't seen the OT auth yet, so not sure there. He is going 1 hr of OT per week right now. Have only been doing 30 min of speech but will push for more now that he is actually cooperating. Right now we are at suspected CAS with potential SPD. Dude is a sensory seeker in every sense of the word. I am familiar with OG and thought the training could really help considering what I believe lies ahead. I do plan to use LiPS. I want to get my hands on a manual. Thanks for the advice on when to start. He will be 4 next summer. Storygirl, thanks for the feedback on the training. I have lots of Education in my background with a MA degree in Composition Pedagogy. I think it might be worth it. The time and money are huge, though. Thanks ladies.
  8. OhE, did you ever do this? If so, can you give me some details? I am interested in pursuing this eventually. Thanks.
  9. Hello Ladies, Old and New, I am Marie, formerly Marie in OH from about 5 years ago. I have re-registered as Mom28GreatKids. I was very active here, but alas, life got in the way for a few years. I still recognize many names from years before. I have 8 kids, been homeschooling for 13, and getting ready to graduate my oldest this year. I am mainly here to poke around on the special needs board as my youngest has been diagnosed with a motor speech disorder, and I was sure I could find info here. So, I will be mainly lurking, but will pop in once in a while if I have anything intelligent to contribute. Thanks.
