  1. Thank you very much. I think I will go with the online option and get extra tutoring or teach the tricky stuff myself as needed.
  2. Hello all. Would love to tap into your collective wisdom on a math question. DD is in 8th grade next year. We are doing Prentice Hall Course 7 and plan on Lial pre-algebra since there is no rush for algebra. She is 2e and there are lots of other things to focus on. I can continue to Lial pre algebra and I like that I can help with executive functioning and methods at home. However, I would like focus on Science this year and math is making that tough. I can also arrange for a tutor or online classes for pre-algebra. I work PT so it will free up our study time for other subjects. But then I fear I will lose control of math if she stumbles because I will be focusing on Science instead of Math. This happened when she went to school for grade 5. OTOH, next year's curriculum whether Lial or online Dolciani is not new concepts compared to what we did this year. So this may not be a bad time to see if the alternatives work. Spinning the same arguments in my head. Any perspectives are appreciated. Thanks. Ann. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. We would love to see Basic Grammar offered during the Summer. It becomes very busy during the school year with lit analysis and writing and we cannot keep up with Grammar classes too. Regards.
  4. DD's writing class is 1 hour twice a week. Sometimes they get done by 50 mins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Reposting as the original message sent from my phone ended up in K-8 writing. Hi. I am considering signing up DD Grade 8 up for this class with Jessica Otto. We are busy with math and Science and never seem to get around to Grammar despite having Easy Grammar plus. She does well with online classes so this one is an option Any experience with this class? Thanks for all opinions. Ann.

  7. I am starting to get a bit concerned after reading this thread if FOEW is too advanced. We have done WWS1 and DS 12 wants something different for a year. I signed up for FOEW but am now wondering if persuasive writing will prove to be too difficult for him. Is there somebody who has taken the class that can weigh in. For reference, he has taken the LL8 class with online G3 and done well. Also we do not plan to take the Great Conversations class. Is skipping that going to affect the writing class? Appreciate all opinions. Thanks, Ann.
  8. Thank you for your response. I did hear back from the developer today and no special permissions are needed for our situation so we are excited to start at co-op. I do have Jill Pike's 6 week TTC syllabus and we plan to modify it since our coop is 10 sessions of 50 mins. We are hoping that once the kids have done this, we can set up an ongoing literature circle and add in other sources such as "figuratively speaking" or Windows to the world in a year or two and round it out. Thanks. Anu. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Greetings. I see some members have used TTC in a co-op setting. Did you need any special permissions to do this? I have written to the email linked on the website but have not heard back. Would you recommend watching the DVDs with the middle school students and then reviewing the books and methods OR just the teacher watching them to learn the method and then teaching it? Thanks. Ann.
  10. My DD is also in Exp writing 1 class with Ms. Meyers. She (and I) feel the classes are well structured and well managed. Homework is posted in advance and graded with thoughtful feedback and Ms. Meyers has been very responsive to questions and concerns. She also likes the WWS format that starts out slow with narrative summaries and outlines. I have to help her with close reading strategies but she works with homework independently. She tells me that class is well behaved because of the "3 strikes and chat gets shut down" policy. This is helpful because my kid is easily distracted and silliness in chat boxes can be a problem in online classes. Warmest regards.
  11. Hello. We are looking into a couple of classes at AIM academy/ Debra Bell. Middle School tools B with Debra Graybill and Latin 1 with Erik Bolt. I do not see anything about these in the archives so they may be new. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ann.
