  1. I can't stand when people do that. I'm fine with other people hosting open house parties, but I could never deal with the wondering whether people would show up! NYE can be tough; people want to party-hop and staying at one party from 7 until midnight can make for a long night. But people should let you know if they're planning to drop by. I hope it works out well!

  2. But really this low acid coffee has been so great because I LOVE coffee and it is certainly better than no coffee! I have gotten used to the taste. I accidentally poured myself some regular the other day and I thought it tasted weird.

You can also take the beans to the grocery store and grind the beans there. You could take it to a coffee shop and tell them your dilemma, too, and they might regrind then. I know the grocery store grinder has a sign on it asking people not to regrind the grounds, but maybe the coffee shop would do it. Go when it's slow and buy a muffin. [emoji4]

  3. I am so sorry, Jan. Many hospice services have grief counseling available to the community. I know you may not be ready for this yet, but I want to let others know about it, too. They operate on an anonymous, pay-what-you-can donation basis and anyone who has experienced loss will be served.

  4. I had the same idea about a washable cover! That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't want to have to wash it.

Thx for the idea for the individual bags for the beads.

I've messaged a couple of sellers on Etsy about theirs. It seems that no one uses batting. Just fabric and beads. I'm going to see if I can add some batting to cushion the beads. Plus is seems like it might help minimize the beads shifting around inside the pockets. idk. I need to consult with my grandmother. ;) She's the expert quilter. Maybe batting just is too complicated.

My daughter has never mentioned anything about needing to be cushioned from the beads. They are lightweight, but the weight and pressure is cumulative, if that makes sense. Another option would be to lay the weighted blanket on top of the comforter, which would put a later of batting in between. I would definitely suggest having the batting later removable so that it's cool the summer. Or use a duvet and cover and pin the weighted blanket inside the duvet cover. I wish my dagger would do this because it would make it easier for her to make her bunk bed, but that's her problem, not mine! Instead, she prefers to sleep with the weighted blanket as her first layer and then everything else. We made one side of the cover fuzzy and one side stretchy so so it can be cool in the summer and extra snuggly in the winter. Then we made another cover out of minky fabric. Now I want a nap...

  5. I've made one for my child, but it was smaller and more manageable - although still difficult. A friend makes them professionally, and she sews individual bags for the plastic pellets. I would definitely recommend this because wrestling the blanket under the needle while also making sure the pellets don't come out is HARD. But sewing the bags is time-consuming, too.

As far as the ratios, I think I would take into account how each person sleeps. If one spreads out, a blanket with pellets from side to side makes sense. But I wonder if you could just have a weighted section in the center and then have sections toward the edges unweighted. Then a large blanket would be more manageable and still maintain the sort of pressure in the area that the person is actually sleeping.

I also recommend making a washable cover for it, like a duvet cover. Washing them is a pain!

Good luck! My daughter was just thanking me again last night for making hers, and she's had it for at least five years.

  6. I had never heard of this company until someone started using my credit card to buy thousands of dollars of products from them. After months of fighting the bank, the credit card company, and finally the Monat company, I did get it resolved, but not before the company sent me a free bottle of shampoo for being such a good customer/retailer. [emoji38] Maybe I should try it.

Or at least send it to Stacey! She's in LA! [emoji6]

  7. I opened the package in the Wegmans check-out line so that the cashier and the woman behind me could try them. The cashier said immediately (well, immediately after waiting for me to try one, too, so that we could try them together - he was very sweet!), "Froot Loops!"

The woman and I didn't like them, and my family doesn't especially like them, either, since they have since eaten other flavors but avoided the mystery ones. I'm considering tossing them out because blech.

  8. Yes. People are not familiar with pressure cooking.

I use a stovetop pressure cooker all the time. IP is a glorified pressure cooker with a lot of bells and whistles (which I love, btw). I have 2 IPs, mostly because the IP is waaaaaaay slower than a stovetop pressure cooker in heating up or cooling down. I hate to wait for it to pressure up, so I heat water in a pan to boiling point and add it to the IP - which is pretty pointless because I have to use another pan. And the pressure release will send out clouds of smoke into my kitchen cabinets (I will not keep the IP under my vent hood) and the outer pot where the lid locks in got worn down first and now is rusting. I still love the IP!

Sometimes I add water to the IP and heat it on saute - or I use my electric kettle that's right by the stove and always has water in it. Besides, it's not like you're getting a pan dirty. Inpatient IP'ers unite!

  10. I listen to podcasts on my phone using Google Play music, but oftentimes, if you right-click on the link to listen to the podcast episode, choose save as or save to - something like that - you can download it directly into a folder onto your computer. You can also use Stitcher on your computer, and *I* don't think it will cause any problems, but your husband sounds concerned. Any way you can alleviate his fears?

  11. I have never taken a vacation that I planned or picked the destination of. I have been to Hawaii 3x (when other people planned it ) and am really over it. I have zero desire to go back. Over the next few years, I would like to plan a vacation that I want. It doesn't have to be phenomenal, just something I choose.

I am not really into places so to speak. Like SF, NYC, or NO. But, I would like to see some specific things in my lifetime. I would love to see another Broadway Musical (I have seen Lion King and Wicked in Portland, Oregon). It doesn't have to be in NYC, just that quality of production.

I really dislike parades with flower floats and middle school bands.... but would like to see a spectacular Mardi Gras or Carnival style event/parade. More something with flamboyant adults having fun, instead of family friendly/suburbs/hometown style.

I would love to see the Northern Lights and southern US fireflies. Simple things to lots of people, but I haven't seen either. Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, an iceberg in Alaska would all be on my list.

I hope to someday be in awe at the scale of pyramids, touch the Colosseum, and other notorious historical places but honestly those come behind USA travel because of $$ and the time involved in traveling to those types of places. If I went out of the country, I would probably pick Norway or Switzerland (I am Norwegian) to see fjords and the Alps.

It will be years before I can do any of this, but would like to start thinking about what I would like to do, so I can put a budget into place and actually make it happen.

Is there anyThing that you would like to visit or see in your life time?

Tap, you can come see Niagara Falls and lightning bugs at the same time! Unless Southern lightning bugs are different from our upstate ones? [emoji4]

Just saw all the other posts about lightning bugs - I had no idea they didn't love in other places! Crazy!

  12. We stopped homeschooling in December of last year, but I was already taking classes, so I continued doing that. I get to go to class during the day now, though, instead of at night or on Sundays! This semester, I'm taking one online class and studying a ton, going to two fitness classes a week, and volunteering with Hospice for an hour or two. My daughter is gone from 8:30 to 3:30 each day, so it's a nice chunk of time. [emoji4] And she LOVES her school and takes the bus, so that's awesome!!! Each semester when my classes end but she's still in school, I wallow around and watch TV the entire time. It's also awesome.

  13. Last semester, I signed up to take the very same class I was currently taking and never noticed until the day before the next class started. I thought I was ahead of the game until I had to scramble to find an available seat in the right class! I also missed a full week of classes because of my mistake. In the end, it was all fine, but gee! I felt like a dope!
