I am curious as to what time your family eats their meals? Right now we are @7:30, noon and 5:30 but I want to extend those times 30-45 minutes.

Made my morning

Ooo yes!! I remember watching the demos of some of them and thinking they looked quite good!
Hope you enjoy it! :)
Thanks!

So which year of the science are you going to do? It will be interesting to hear how he likes it! The BJU online classes come with interesting forum features, etc. He might like that aspect of it too. I thought it was very well done.
We are doing science 6. I really think he is going to enjoy the video aspect.

I appreciate the help! Dinner is saved :-)

ok, thank you all. Yes, this Friday as in two days ago.

I took stew meat out Friday to thaw. It has been in the Fridge since and when I took it out just now to make stew, some of the pieces on top have turned brown. It smells good and it's not slimy etc., but I have no idea if this is normal. Toss or is it still good?

Thank you all. We decided to try it for this year and see how it goes. Thankful for the $99 sale price!

We use BJU hard drive for some subjects with my struggling 11yo son and watching and listening to the lecture has been a good fit. Not perfect, but good. If your son can pay attention to the video lesson he may enjoy it. Does he learn well through visual media? You can watch some sample lessons and see what he thinks. Math didn't work for us, but science, reading and english have gone pretty well.
HTH!
Thanks!

Thanks again everyone!

Thank you all!

Why do you either love or hate MOH? Thanks!

We have the same issue, and I'm doing LOE - just the spelling - with my 10 yo to address it. It is really helping. The spelling dictation method of LOE really seems to be doing the trick - it gives her a chance to think about how you apply the spelling rules, and it gives us a language to talk about spelling errors she makes in writing, or for me to help her with spelling words when she asks. We are doing one lesson a week (one day), using the Advanced spelling list. It doesn't take much time, and it really is helping a lot! If I were you, since I already have LOE, I would make it a priority to do regularly. Have you watched the videos on the website? The spelling dictation method that Denise demonstrates is really what has made the difference.
Thank you. I haven't looked at her site but plan to. I think I am going to finish the year with LOE and put her in R&S in the fall. We are on lesson 10 in LOE, I just need to get my act together!

One other thought, as you go about your enrichment activities, whether that's a colleague over for dinner or a museum, ask the men for their experiences. Probably the most interesting I've heard was a sailor on the USS Constitution app 8 years ago...that fella, unprompted saw a lot of teen boys who weren't paying much attention to the tour, and added in his story. He had lived for sports in high school, won many awards, but barely graduated with a 2.0. Enlisted with his buddies, but was so behind in academics he didn't have a chance at any technical type of jobs. Luckily stationed in Boston, he has easy access to the education he wasn't able to get from his rural Tennessee high school; he is conscious of the time it is taking and the opportunities he is missing out on to improve his income.
I love this idea!

Thank you everyone! I am going to look into each suggestion.

Sorry, I don't know about BJU courses, but I wanted to mention that we used a couple of Switched on Schoolhouse CD courses several years ago. The nice thing about them is that you can block out assignments and keep it very simple if you want, and they can be done mostly independently, with no time limit, on the computer. I never used their science courses.
Thanks!

Do you know whether the BJU text is available in an audio format at BJU or for download at learningally.org ?
Have you looked at Science Fusion? I know for certain the student can listen to the Science Fusion text while online; of course, it's secular...
I know I can get them from Learning Ally, not sure about from BJU. I will check out Science Fushion. Thanks.

I am considering BJU Online science for my 13 year old. He still reads very slow and his comprehension is poor. Do you think the course would be a good fit for him? I really wanted something he could do mostly independently, but I don't know if he will be able to read and comprehend the textbook. And then there is doing the written work to deal with...

My 9 year old reads well but spells poorly. We used SWR for grades 2 and 3 and are using LOE now, but I haven't been doing it daily due to life happening. What would you recommend I use with her? I was thinking about R&S Spelling but I don't know where to start?

Thank you all. You have given me a lot to think about.

Have you ever stepped on a spider and like 4647651434841141 microscopic baby spiders exploded everywhere? Yeah that happened to me once. Luckily it was outdoors. :leaving:
My oldest daughter was pettsitting this summer and the people have a pool. There was one of those float things you can lay on, leaning by the pool wall. She grabbed it and was floating in the pool. She glanced down and saw something brown on her stomach so she flicked it off and tiny spiders started crawling all over her. She screamed, dove into the water and then into the house for a hot shower. I would have died.

Please don't quote, I will probably delete later.
I had a long post typed out and *poof* it's gone. Anyhow, how do you motivate an unmotivated student? Said student does just enough to get by and get the lesson done, doesn't care about grades etc.
