  1. How much seat work is he doing? I have a 7 year old boy. I actually suspect he is gifted and he does not have much seat work at all - probably about an hour and that is all me teaching him. Any chance you can share a "typical" amount of school work he is doing in a day? Just curious. :001_smile:
  2. I liked some of the article but not all of it. I believe in eating healthy and in moderation. We eat organic, very little meat, no fast food, etc. but that is just what works for us. Not everyone is in the position to afford it or just wants to eat what they want. No matter the reasoning for either way, it should be that person's choice and they should not be criticized for it. Everyone needs stop judging what other people are doing and worry about themselves. It's pretty simple to me.
  3. My step-son used Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra through Pre-Calculus. It is a spiral math program, which is what he needed. After years of worrying it was going to ruin him, he got a 25 on the ACT math section. He graduated 2 years ago now and got into every school he applied to and has had no problems with math courses since. It's definitely not the most rigorous program but it worked for him. I have never used Saxon so I can't compare the two.
  4. I could see matching t-shirts as a fun cute thing but actual uniforms? To much of a hassle and expense, considering this seems to be an informal support group. This actually reminds me of a homeschooler I know - she has all her kids where a uniform during "school hours". I always found it really odd.
  5. So cool! I showed it to my kids too. Thanks for sharing. :)
  6. No I haven't, It looks like exactly what I was going to put together myself. One less thing to do, thank you! :)
  7. Has anyone made quizzes or tests to go along with it? It would save me a lot of time! Thank you.
  8. Go screen free for a period of time. Eventually you can start adding some time back in, maybe starting with educational shows. Make him earn screen time by doing school work. That was the perfect reward system for one of mine. :grouphug: Sorry you are stressed. You mentioned he is dyslexic, could the school work be to hard? How is he reading? That would be my #1 focus right now. Besides that I would follow anything that he had a slightest interest in.
  9. Great idea! My kids are loving Guess Who right now but are getting bored/easy with the same people. :)
  10. I ran in home daycare for 10 years and tutored Elementary Aged students. I only had a few kids during the day but quite a few before and after school. It could be something to consider. It did provide extra income for fun things and helped pay some bills. I also loved it. :)
