  1. Kelli, I found a neat website that goes with Harcourt, I am sure you could use the movies for any curriculum. I just clicked the grade and chapter, pretty neat. Harcourt Science
  2. My dd is quite textbookie (sp?) She loves gobbles and gobbles of facts, I think she grew out of the Apologia Elementary series a year or two ago , but she is very compliant so she'll do just about anything I ask without a fuss. The Apologia Elementary is to wordy for her, although my youngest loves it. In a last ditch attempt to keep her with her siblings she did the Zoology 3 this year with her two younger siblings, and then asked if she could have a book like my old nursing anatomy and physiology book....lol. Well, I certainly don't plan on giving her those, but I think she is drawn to the cut to the chase facts. I will look at Harcourt, thanks!
  3. Thanks, I'll check them out:)
  4. I am looking for a rigorous science course. We have just completed ALL the Apologia (Elementary) Series. I liked them but my kiddos are ready for "meatier" stuff. I was thinking of Apologia GS for my 5th grader, I think she would do fine but then I would have to use something else for my younger two. Has anyone had any experiences with these, if so any reviews.pleeessee Supercharged Science Home School Science Videos (as a supplement) Kendall Hunt Home school Science Thanks!
  5. Funnix 2 is really good. I use it as a supplement for my 6yod.
  6. I burn them onto a disk, so they can listen at bedtime or in the car :)
  7. Thanks!!!! I have waiting for ILL for a couple of these:001_smile:
  8. When I have "special" curriculum I want to insert, I schedule it so they are done regularly over a quick period of time. For example, this year I would like to add in about 8 weeks of Poetry, and 2 TLP Literature guides. In order to do this without increasing the workload I plan on stopping Science after December and focusing on Poetry. Then in March I will be finished with History and that will enable us to use that time for the Literature Guides. HTH's
  9. I think you broke the rule...... Recipe please;).
  10. Here is the site. It has sooooo many step by step recipes.
  11. Ohh , can I have your recipe it please :-) It is intimidating, the whole active yeast, air bubbles, cracking, proofing.... I am so happy I finally tried it.
  12. I see all you wonderful ladies making bread, and well although I can cook I was so very afraid of bread. I had the pizza dough and Artisan type down. But the sandwich looking kind and rolls for some reason scared me :). I finally searched and found a site with explicit directions ( I needed so badly) and pictures of each step (finally). I just spent the afternoon, making 3 loaves of farmhouse white bread. OMG......I don't think I will ever look at store bought bread the same again. I used organic white wheat, and the kids practically ate a whole loaf slathered with peanut butter. Even my husband loved it. Thanks for the push, now that my kitchen is covered in flour and I am making a list of all the breads I will try, just great:D
  13. I am a neat-nick so here goes: clean inside of refrigerator-weekly dust knickknacks thoroughly ( I don't like nick-nacks), I dust 2 x's a week but it's non-nicknacky stuff:) polish wood furniture- bi-weekly scrub bathtub/shower-bi-weekly mop floors OTHER THAN bathroom- sweep every day, mop-every other day clean under the fridge, stove dishwasher, washer, dryer by pulling them out every 3 months, and laundry every day, and much , much more. 15. Yea, your right. I can be quite the curriculum junkie, thanks for helping me put the breaks on :).
  16. What a GOOBA I am. I was thinking audio CD not computer CD. I get it now. I just grabbed grades 3,4, and 5 off the FS board and saved myself about $40. Do you think I will need the 6th grader one sooner or later? TIA
  17. Hi Heather, Yea, that's whats been holding me back. I was thinking some of the topics in the TOC in the Van Cleave book would work well with the rainbow kit. and now if I can add in a comprehensive book, I keep eying Cool Chemistry Concoctions, and I just found this Chemistry Bit I'm trying to see if I can use it alongside something.....we sure are a picky bunch!
  18. I am gonna put out an e-mail to my homeschool group and see if I can get my hands on a copy of Megawords, what's SS?
  19. OhElizabeth, that actually sounds doable. What is the Calvert CD like?
  20. Thanks I'll look at this at the RR site.
  21. My delimma, I have used SWR for 6 years. I have taught 3 kiddos to read and it works, for us anyways. My oldest is getting to be SO independant and my ds asked if her could do something else for spelling. We have been down this road many times, I have jumped the SWR ship only to find my self begging to get back on. Another year of SWR, yes it works, yes the results are better than I had anticipated but, it's getting BORING:001_huh:. I can dictate in my sleep, mark a spelling word with my eyes closed and I know every rule by heart. So I just tossed some Megawords and Sequential Spelling in my RR cart right before I hit the paypal button I remembered I had not corrected the monthly diagnostic test. My 5th gr. dd gets a 7.5 mastery and my 3rd gr. ds gets a 5.1. I was so happy but I have such mixed feelings. Should I try jumping ship AGAIN!:( HELP! Should I just try something else, to mix it up a little? Should I just drop spelling for a while? If I try something else I want it to be a workbook, both my older kids to well with those, any advice on what uses SWR rules? Thanks...I'm done
  22. I decided to try is this month, I never got one before but I did also get the Vegi/Fruit Special with it. I'll let you know what comes in it and it it's any good :)
  23. That might work on off days. Only because he gets REALLY stimulated when there are groups of people, and he is more likely to have an angry outburst. My son would be likely to make a "new" friend and he would get really angry and tell him not to play with anyone else. But on a Monday morning during regular school hours it would be quieter, this could work. Thanks!
  24. My ds is really mellow, so I have been able to dismiss the questions with maybe he was tired, hungry...having a bad day. But I can see those answers are not satisfying my ds and his way of dealing with it is to hang our with some new friends, which I don't mind him having. I just know that my bf's ds has only my ds. It's harder for my df's son to make friends because the differences are showing more, maybe because of the age..not sure. Your right about it being a tough one, I feel yucky about the whole thing.
