I have no little ones but my whole family loved the movie. Probably my favorite Disney movie ever. I got weepy more from a Mom standpoint and the kid spreading her wings theme. With teens, that hits close to home for me right now.

I got my dh some animaniacs pop vinyl figures to put in his office. I will get him a bottle of locally made vodka that he really likes and some stocking stuffers. We traditionally don't spend a whole lot of money on each other.

This Mix n Chop from Pampered Chef. I use a lot of ground beef and this is awesome to break it up. https://www.pamperedchef.com/shop/Cook%27s+Tools/Cookware+Utensils/Mix+%27N+Chop/2583
I also really love my cookie scoop and pastry blender, also from pampered chef.

I am so, so sorry.

Movie tickets? Gift card for a favorite restaurant? How about something like a nice, new pillow? I sympathize because I struggle over what to get dh every year. He is also one that just buys what he wants.

The Napping House is a huge favorite here for the younger child. Also, look for books written/illustrated by John Butler. Our favorite is called Hush, Little Ones. The illustrations are beautiful.
I second the suggestion for the Magic Tree House books. My 15 year old still re-reads them on occasion. Much loved. Also, she has a copy of the complete stories of Winnie the Pooh that has gotten much love.

My daughter gets her jeans at Kohls. They are Lee Curvy fit and she can get them in Petite sizes which works well for her. She really likes them. They also boast a no gap waist and that all really helps the fit for her.

For Christmas eve, we get together with my family. This year we are ordering pizza. In past year, we have done everything from pork loin to steaks and traditional ham with all of the trimmings. We chose to simplify this year.
For Christmas day, I am making a ham for sandwiches and then we are supplementing with appetizer items. My MIL is bringing deviled eggs and there will probably be meatballs. We will do that in the afternoon and then, I think we will steal redsquirrel's idea from above and invite those we know that would like to share Christmas with someone over for an open house type thing on the evening of Christmas.

Pretty much the same ones I always support: our local homeless shelter for families, Catholic Social Services food bank, Ronald McDonald House, and Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
Also, this year, more of my money is going to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation. My cousin's twin boys have been diagnosed with this catastrophic form of epilepsy so I am trying to send some money that direction in hopes of a cure.

If I don't make these cookies at least at Christmas time, I risk being disowned by friends and family. My MIL has even been known to just buy me some butterscotch chips as a not very subtle hint.

I had to give up Christmas cards when I went from working part time to full time. Just not enough time.
My family decided to simplify our get together this year. We are focusing on being together and not what we eat while we are together. So, it is pizza for Christmas eve for us this year. We will make a dessert or two and throw in a salad and we are done. We draw names for Christmas so it limits our gift purchasing.
We are hosting dh's family on Christmas day but I am just doing appetizer type food. Maybe a ham and some buns for sandwiches. Nothing overly taxing. My BIL, his wife, DH and I are forgoing getting each other gifts for a double date some evening where we can spend time together.
I did get my real tree this year for the first time since I was a kid. I love it. Makes me happy. Focusing on the people more than the details makes me feel a lot better about Christmas. My kids love it so I want to do what makes us all happy.

DD got 3 acceptance letters this week;
Drake University + Presidential Scholarship
Benedictine College - Competitive scholarship Save the Date arrive prior to acceptance letter . :001_smile:
St. Edwards University + President's Excellence and Edwardian Scholarships
She has one more application to hear back on and is about ready to submit to the selective schools with the January deadlines. The current acceptances give her great safety options but she really wants to get into a selective school. April 1 will be a big day for us.
Yay for St. Edward's. That is my alma mater. I loved my time there.

We have done "breakfast in bed" as a gift before. Get a tray (they have one at target online for about $13) and then add pancake mix, syrup, small single pot coffee bags, etc. We actually received this as a wedding gift from some friends and I borrowed her idea.

I would recommend to avoid any dolls with curly hair. These are much more difficult than the ones with straighter hair. We have several AG dolls at our house and the curly haired ones look much more scraggly.

I am facebook friends with many people that I went to high school with but it doesn't really go any farther than that. I have college friends that are extremely important to me, one of whom is still my best friend. I have been friends with these people for almost 30 years. I love them like my family. We are spread out all over the country now and I wish we could see/speak more often but the separation does not diminish the connection.

To my family, the most important tradition is just making time to be together. We always had the same tradition for years but life circumstances have changed for all of us so we are adjusting to a new normal. We make the time for each other though.

Recently, the hospital where I worked offered a bunch of employees the opportunity to retire early. I was so jealous. I would have taken it in a heartbeat. But, alas, I am only 45 and you had to be 62 to get the offer. I understand.

I have no idea what any of you are talking about. Sounds like I should be glad about that.

We had Sling TV but it was far too glitchy for us. We now have Playstation Vue through our Roku. It costs about $10 more than Sling but not glitchy and we get more channels. We do also have Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix but watch Vue most of the time. We may cancel some of the others.

So sorry that you are dealing with this. I also have to have MRIs of my head/neck on Wednesday next week as I have been having problems with numbness/tingling in my scalp and left side of my face. I have neurology appointment on 11/15. Hopefully we both get good news soon.

The party is for both of my daughters as their birthdays are only one week apart so only one family party. Unfortunately, their likes are very different. DD12 is extremely picky. I have quit trying to please her most of the time but since it is her birthday dinner, I thought I would make more of an effort. I may wait to see what is on sale next week and go from there.

I did a little babysitting but my first job was a work study job when I went to college. My mother would not let me get a job because she told me I had limited time to be a kid and she wanted me to take advantage of it. I was very active in marching band and had AP classes and the like in high school so I was already busy. I don't think it had any adverse affect on me. With the exception of brief unemployment periods and maternity leaves, I have not stopped working since.

MMR about 15 years ago. When I got my job at the hospital, they tested me and I was not immune. I will probably get my tetanus booster when I go for physical in February.
Anyone here do medical transcription?

I was a medical transcriptionist working for a major hospital. We were all phased out about 5 years ago. It is definitely a dying field. There are companies that still pay transcriptionists that work from home but the pay is very low. I would not invest any money in training for this field.
