I have found that the workbook pages are so quick and brief that I have my son now doing both ETC and MCP, as well as Spelling Workout! Maybe it's because he's a boy, but he really needs a lot of repetition to get it all to sink in.

You could go the public school route, but I would start with your pediatrician. They may be able to recommend a developmental ped. in your area or at the practice. You may also want to put this post on the special needs and the accelerated boards and get some more responses. Good luck.

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: and prayers. I pray you are both able to talk things out and understand what is going on .

My boys loved Sign of The Beaver! It made me cry! It was really a good read! We have not read the other.

The last couple of years I have gone anti-candy! I have goldfish crackers, pretzel sticks, smartfood popcorn and sugar free gum.

I believe in testing. My son took the elementary SAT last year and I plan for him to take it every year. I'm also happy I have my kids doing the Critical Thinking Co. workbooks. They really get the kids to think and review.

I really just wanted to bump you up, so others can get a chance to respond. FIAR is a great start. Kindergarten is really light. Basic intro to math, letters, and writing. You can do that for after schooling too. Just lots and lots of read alouds as well.

We like and use PP. I like that it is just chug along one page at a time! It worked very well for my oldest and my second is about 1/4 of the way through. He likes it too. They both really like Dewey and so do I. Lately, I've been thinking of using it over again with my older son for spelling! All the rules are clearly layed out.

just looked up what they are and I would definitely pass! Yuck!

Thanks for your information. It looks like most of the studies for Dyspraxia have taken place in England. I did order a book on amazon a few months ago that had the ADHD/Aspergers in the title. Then, when I was looking for books about Dyspraxia I saw that the book I ordered also had Dyspraxia in the title!
I'm hoping the neuropsych will have more input. He specializes in ADHD and Aspergers. I know what you mean about good therapists and psychologists. I live where they seem to be at every street corner and trying to find a good one was somewhat of a challenge. I did some phone interviews and had two face to face meetings and this guy just seemed to fit perfectly. He was also highly recommended by an Advocate of a friend of ours.
I will report back on his finding, which may take a few months.

Very cool picture! Happy Birthday to her!

This is a totally new word to me. I've been researching Asperger's and ADHD over the past 2 years. I'm not sure there is much difference. But, I just had my oldest tested by an Occupational Therapy and this is what she came up with.
If you have a child that has this, has OT helped?
I am very interested to see how his neuropsych testing goes next month.
Thanks you.

Negin, what a wealth of information! My hair has also thinned over the past couple of years and I am concerned about it. My only other question is does the type of shampoo you use make any difference? It seems it is more of an internal remedy. If shampoo matters could you please suggest some?
Thanks you so much!

We are really enjoying going through SOTW 2. If we do one chapter a week, with no breaks, we will finish in April. April is just where we started it. I realize it's no big deal to go over the designated one year mark, but if we linger as we have been, it's going to take about a year in a half! There is just so much great reading! My son says linger on. He is a total history buff.

Just wanted to thank Michelle for those online suggestions!

Daily geography has worked really well with us! I'm considering Daily Language Practice next.

I will be finishing FLL 2 sooner than WWE. I do not want to jump ahead. I want to review all the concepts and poems from FLL 2. I want to use the book to review, but was thinking it would be great to have a supplement to this. Maybe a workbook. My son likes workbooks. Any ideas?

My oldest took the SAT elementary first grade test this past spring and I really felt he needed more prep to know what to expect. I have him doing several books from Critical Thinking Co. and I think they have been great! They review many concepts he has already been taught, but places them in a different way and makes him think and work. I have always been having him do Evan-Moor mapping since kindergarten. He knows east from west better than left from right! He scored very well on the mapping section of the test.

I liked the first one and made some copies. Thanks, I've been meaning to do this!

Try to get out for some exercise. Fresh air is the best. :grouphug:

I'm on my cell - so I wasn't able to listen, but skimmed the transcript. Is your dh a pulitzer award winning war journalist? Wow!!! Very cool.

Okay, so we have been using SWO as well. I've been thinking it isn't working all that well. I like the idea of letter tiles and white board hangman! But, when should I expect a spelling program to start working? My son is 8. Should spelling really come more naturally in the logic stage? Should an 8 year old be able to spell the words he is practicing? My husband seems to think we should not be worrying about it.

We use Zaner-Bloser. My ds8 likes it! There are no cons!

Wow, how amazing that they reached out and made you feel wanted when you were young. And, what a great opportunity for you to contact them after all this time. That is awesome!
